On Monday, Rio Rancho (NM) senior Charlie Vause was named the Gatorade National Boys Player Of The Year for the 2024 season, presented with the award by Paris Olympics double bronze medalist and two-time world record holder Grant Fisher.

During the fall, Vause won the 2024 Nike Cross Nationals title in 15:28.10 for 5k, as well as finished third at NXR Southwest in a PR of 14:30.19. Vause also finished second at his state championship meet.

Fisher, who won the Gatorade Player Of The Year award twice while in high school at Grand Blanc (MI), surprised Vause with the award on Monday morning at Rio Rancho High School, just outside of Albuquerque.
