Cole Hocker, Cooper Teare Hit 5k World Standard At BU DMR Challenge 2025
Paris Olympic 1,500m gold medalist Cole Hocker and teammate Cooper Teare battled for 5,000m world standard times on Friday at the BU Terrier DMR Challenge.
Cole Hocker and Cooper Teare wanted in on the fast racing at BU.
One week after Grant Fisher set the world record in the men's indoor 5,000m at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational, training partners Hocker and Teare traveled to Boston for their own tries at quick 5,000m times. That turned out well for the Paris Olympian 1,500m gold medalist as he clocked a win in 12:57.82 on Friday night at the BU Terrier DMR Challenge/Last Chance meet.
Teare finished in a narrow second place in 12:57.97.

Teare and Hocker stayed in line together at the front of the race throughout, knocking off 61-second 400m splits to begin before backing off a bit.
Over the final lap, the two split 27 seconds to cross the line each in 12:57, with Hocker getting the slight advantage.
Hocker and Teare's performance gives them the 13:01 5,000m standard for the World Outdoor Championships in September in Tokyo. Grant Fisher and Graham Blanks are the only other Americans who have hit the worlds standard in the event so far.
Jack Rayner and Gulveer Singh also hit the world standard in third and fourth, running 12:59.43 and 12:59.77.
The times in BU also come on the same weekend as the USATF Indoor Championships taking place at Ocean Breeze in Staten Island, as Hocker and Teare opted out of competing in the national championships. Other notable distance athletes -- including Fisher, world No. 2 all-time indoor miler Yared Nuguse and others --- also chose not to toe the line at USATF Indoors.
It also comes just a couple weeks removed from Hocker's epic duel with Fisher in the 3,000m at the Millrose Games. Though Hocker took a narrow second-place finish to Fisher, who ran an incredible 7:22.91 world record, Hocker moved to world No. 2 all-time with his time of 7:23.14.
