Virginia Sets NCAA Men's DMR Record At Arkansas Qualifier
The Virginia men's distance medley squad ran a new collegiate record on Friday at the Arkansas Qualifier.

The records continue to fall on the indoor oval at the collegiate level in 2025.
On Friday afternoon in Fayetteville at the Arkansas Qualifier, the Virginia Cavaliers became the latest squad to notch a record, setting a new collegiate all-time mark in the men's distance medley relay of 9:14.19.
That surpasses the previous record of 9:16.40 mark set by Oklahoma State back in 2023.

From the gun, the Cavaliers went to the front, paced by Arkansas' 'B' squad on the opening 1,200m leg. Wes Porter handed off the baton first for Virginia, splitting 2:50.51, and then Alex Sherman covered 400m in 46.65. Sherman passed the stick to Conor Murphy for the 800m leg with a narrow lead over the Arkansas' 'A' team.
Murphy ran 1:47.33 for his 800m leg but got passed by both Iowa State and Oklahoma State heading into the 1,600m anchor. But with No. 2 all-time collegiate miler Gary Martin on the final leg, getting back into first was no problem at all for the Cavaliers.
Martin covered the last eight laps of the race in 3:50.09, giving Virginia a two-second win over Oklahoma State.
Oklahoma State's 9:16.24 moves them to No. 2 all-time, also surpassing their own previous collegiate record from 2023.
It's not the first time we've seen a record go down this indoor season in the men's DMR. Last weekend, Washington ran 9:14.10 for an all-conditions record at the UW Husky Classic. However, since it was contested on an oversized track in Spokane, it technically does not count as the official collegiate record.
But it's also worth noting that we could be in for more fast DMRs this evening in Boston. A slew of top collegiate programs, including North Carolina, Georgetown, Wake Forest and more, will compete at the BU Terrier DMR Challenge/Last Chance meet aiming for quick marks.
