The face of pole vaulting is returning to Eugene in 2025.

Men's pole vault world record holder Mondo Duplantis will compete at the Prefontaine Classic on July 5, with the addition of the event to the meet schedule as a non-Diamond discipline, released Thursday by event organizers.

He joins Sha'Carri Richardson as the first two athletes announced to compete at this year's meet, which will be the 50th edition of the Pre Classic. Richardson will headline the women's 100m in Eugene in July.

Duplantis, the two-time Olympic gold medalist, has set the outdoor pole vault world record 10 times -- and two of those record-breaking performances came at Hayward Field. He jumped 6.21m at the 2022 World Outdoor Championships in Eugene, and then later cleared 6.23m at the 2023 Prefontaine Classic, which served as the Diamond League Final.

Now, Duplantis' world record sits at 6.26m, which he also set on the Diamond League circuit at the Silesia Diamond League meeting in August 2024.

The Diamond League has certainly been friendly to Duplantis over the years. He's won four straight Diamond League finals in the event, adding to his resume that includes the two Olympic gold medals, two World Outdoor titles and two World Indoor wins.

The Prefontaine Classic has been part of the Diamond League circuit since its start 15 years ago, marking the only Diamond League meeting on the calendar that's held in the U.S.
