Could we be any more excited for the ACC Championships? On the first day of March, some of the best athletes in the world will converge on Louisville, Kentucky for the 2025 ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
World record holders, American record holders, and Olympians make up this year's fields, with high-profile names such as North Carolina's Ethan Strand or Stanford's mid-distance duo of Juliette Whittaker and Roisin Willis.
Although every event has its fair share of stars, the distance events are going to be some of the most exciting in the country. If the pace is honest, there's a great chance we could see some record-breaking performances.
Here are three distance storylines to follow at the 2025 ACC Indoor Championships.

1. Strand, Wolfe, and Sands Could Lead Tar Heels To Podium
Arguably one of the greatest distance duos we've seen in the collegiate ranks, North Carolina's Ethan Strand and Parker Wolfe have the chance to lead their Tar Heel teammates onto the podium. Over the next three days, both men are going to play crucial roles for their squad if they want to end their weekend with a trophy.
On Saturday, Strand is opening up his racing slate with the 5000m, and he'll help close the meet down on Monday in what's going to be a loaded 3000m final. In case you've been living under a rock for the last few months, Strand is in the midst of a jaw-dropping indoor campaign, setting both the collegiate Mile and 3k records.
Wolfe, his teammate and training partner is racing for the first time since early December, and is opting for just the 3k. Wolfe clocked 7:30.23 a few months ago, good enough for the second-fastest performance in collegiate history. Considering this will be his first official race in nearly three months, it's unclear where the senior's fitness is at.
Along with tried-and-true veterans such as Colton Sands, Patrick Anderson, and Aiden Neal, there's no telling how many points their distance squad can produce. On paper, the defending champs can potentially put up nearly 40 points in the Mile, 3k, and 5k alone, but that's why they run the race.
Roisin Willis And Juliette Whittaker Are Integral To Stanford's Title Chase
While Strand and Wolfe are a historically great distance duo, Stanford's pair of superstar half-milers might rival them on the mid-distance side of things. Coming out of high school, both Juliette Whittaker and Roisin Willis were immediate threats whenever they stepped onto the track, and a few years later that continues to ring true.
Roughly two and a half years into their stint in Palo Alto, both women have already won a national title and earned a slew of All-American honors to go along with it. Not only have the pair collected a lot of hardware, but they've also both ran sub-two on many occasions, even moving into the top five of the record books.
This Sunday Willis will look to add another conference title to her resume, but her first as a member of the ACC. Willis ran 2:01.45 in her lone 800m this season, but has flexed her range in the 600m and Mile as well. Willis also ran the 800m leg on Stanford's DMR two weeks ago, a quartet that went 10:38.93, the third-fastest performance in collegiate history.
As of today, Whittaker is not entered in any individual event at the ACC Championships, and since there are no names attached to any of the relays, there is no way to confirm if Whittaker is competing in any capacity until they're on the line.
Gary Martin Can Do No Wrong, Cavaliers Are Podium Threats
Following his historic run, Gary Martin was satisfied with running 3:48.82 alongside the big dogs at the 117th Millrose Games, but knows he can go faster. Two weeks later, the Philadelphia native anchored the Cavalier DMR in 3:50, breaking the collegiate record in the process, continuing his dominant streak.
However, Martin won't be toeing the line in his signature event, instead opting for the 5k/3k double. Keep in mind, Martin isn't your typical miler with limited range. The junior ran 7:36.09 for 3k in December, and has a lifetime best of 13:31.51 in the 5000m. However, this will not be an easy feat for Martin to accomplish by any means, with tough fields set to challenge him in both events.
In the longer of the two events, Martin will have to deal with Strand and a pack of guys that have ran 13:40 or faster. In the penultimate event of the meet, Martin might have an even tougher task at hand. Along with Strand, Parker Wolfe is getting back into the swing of things, and will be joined by the entirety of Stanford's distance contingent.
For a runner of Martin's caliber, in no way is this impossible, but with the fields surrounding him, it won't be easy.
