LSU freshman pole vaulter Dillon Reidenauer died in a car crash on Wednesday evening in Baton Rouge, according to university officials.

According to police records and news reports, a white Honda Accord attempted a left turn onto South Quad Drive on the campus of LSU just after 9 p.m. CT on Wednesday night. As the Honda Accord tried to make the turn, the car was hit by a BMW motorcycle.

The driver of the Honda Accord, identified as Reidenauer by Baton Rouge Police, and the drive of the motorcyle, 23-year-old Bodhi Linton, both died at the scene of the crash.

"We are devastated by the tragic passing of Dillon Reidenauer, who was taken from us much too soon," said LSU head track and field coach Dennis Shaver in a statement. "Everyone in our LSU Track & Field family is keeping Dillon's loved ones in our thoughts and prayers, as well as those of the other individual lost in the accident."

Reidenauer attended Fontainebleau High School in Abita Springs, La. prior to LSU where she was a state runner-up in the girls pole vault at the 2025 LHSAA 5A State Championships. At LSU, Reidenauer was studying interior design.

The LSU track and field program is currently on the road in College Station, Texas competing at the 2025 SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships. Many athletes paid tribute to Reidenauer while competing on day one of the meet on Thursday, including 2023 NCAA outdoor 800m champion Michaela Rose, who wrote "Rest in love, Dillon," on the back of her race bib.

Members of the LSU team also wore ribbons pinned to their jerseys in honor of Reidenauer.

"Forever our teammate, Dillon Reidenauer," said an X post from the LSU Track & Field account on Thursday evening.
