New Balance Nationals is one of the premier high school track events, attracting the top athletes from across the country. The competition is intense, and performances often reach unprecedented levels.

Every year, surprises unfold as underdogs shine, and fan favorites defy expectations, pushing the limits of high school track and field. Ahead of this year’s championship, there are a few records that we’ve got our eyes on.

The 400m Record Is in Danger with Quincy Wilson and Andrew Salvadon in the Wings.

Quincy Wilson is undoubtedly a fan favorite.

In February, he shattered his own indoor high school national record at the New Balance Grand Prix with a time of 45.66 seconds. His record may face some pressure, especially with Andrew Salvadon in the mix.

Salvadon did prevent Wilson from defending his 500m title at the VA Showcase, but now they’ll face off in the 400m, an event where Wilson is undeniably dominant. Although this is Wilson’s signature race, Salvadon will certainly bring the competition, putting pressure on the high school national record. Salvadon enters the race ranked #6 in the nation after posting a personal best of 46.78 in the indoor 400m in February.

Can Lisa Raye Improve on Her 60m Record?

Lisa Raye set the high school girls’ 60m record at the Millrose Games in February, clocking an impressive 7.13 seconds.

In an interview afterwards, she revealed that her goal was to break the previous 60m record set by Shawnti Jackson in 2013. She accomplished that feat.

Additionally, Raye set a personal best in the 200m at the VA Showcase, running 23.39 seconds. While Adaejah Hodge’s indoor high school 200m record may remain safe, a new personal best for Raye seems within reach.

Can Cole Boone Set Another National Record a Week Later?

Heading into the New Balance Nationals, Cole Boone enters with an added layer of confidence, knowing that he's already proven himself capable of breaking barriers.

Earlier this month at the VHSL Class 3 Indoor State Championships he set a new high school national record in the 1000m. In addition to that he set a new indoor personal best in the 800m last month running 1:51.11.

Boone is slated to compete in both the 800m and mile at the upcoming New Balance Nationals. Given his recent performances, he could very well be on the verge of setting another record.

With these heavy hitters in action, the New Balance Nationals promises to deliver must-see performances. The entire event will be streamed live on YouTube starting Thursday, March 13th. You can also follow all the updates on FloTrack and MileSplit!
