USC won the men’s title at the 2025 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships in Virginia Beach, Virginia, outdistancing Georgia and Auburn.

USC Wins Men's Title At 2025 NCAA Indoor Track And Field Championships

After two days and 16 events, the men’s team title at the 2025 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships came down to the final race of the weekend, the 4x400 relay.

USC entered the three-heat finale with a two-point lead over Auburn, four points ahead of Arkansas and eight points ahead of Oklahoma State, and the Trojans were able to hold on for the win, despite some controversy and a delay surrounding the last race.

The national championship was the first indoor title for the USC men since 1972 and their third overall. They also won in 1967 and had runner-up finishes in 1966, 1968 and 2018.

With Auburn and OSU not competing in the relay, that meant the only team that could pass the Trojans in the standings in the 17th event would be Arkansas, and they’d be running side by side in the final section of the 12-team race.

Some contact on the track, a dropped baton by Arkansas, a lot of confusion, a protest and a lengthy wait while it all was reviewed delayed the USC celebration for about an hour.

The Trojans finished fourth in the relay and ended the meet with 39 points. Georgia won the 4x400, and the 10 points that came with the victory helped the Bulldogs jump from a tie for fifth place into the runner-up spot with 33 points.

Auburn finished third with 32 points, and because of the Arkansas miscues, the Razorbacks were 11th in the relay and didn’t secure any additional points. They finished fourth overall with 30 points.

The 17-event schedule at the NCAA Indoor Championships includes 10 track events and seven field competitions. Points are awarded to the top eight finishers – 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1.

USC did not win any of the events this year, but compiled points in the following ways:

  • 60 meters (seven points) – Travis Williams (fifth), JC Stevenson (sixth)
  • 60 hurdles (five points) – Johnny Brackins Jr. (fourth)
  • 200 meters (eight points) – Garrett Kaalund (fourth), Johnnie Blockburger (sixth)
  • 400 meters (four points) – William Jones (fifth)
  • High jump (six points) – Elias Gerald (fifth), Brady Palen (fifth)
  • Long jump (four points) – Stevenson (sixth), Brackins (eighth)
  • 4x400 meter relay (five points) – Jones, Kalund, Jacob Andrews, Blockburger (fourth)

The two-day meet began Friday and concluded Saturday night with the USC trophy presentation.

On the women’s side, Oregon won with 55 points and was followed by Georgia (39) and USC (35).
