Day 2 Picks
Day 2 Picks
Day 1 was rough. Of our picks, only Tonya Nero of Wichita State was in the top ten! Shame on our voters! At least my girl DNF'd. Who knows how well she would have done if she would have finished. I'm sure she would have won.
Anyhow, Day 1 ends with no one in the scoring column. On to Day 2!

Like Thursday, there is only one final today, and that's the Men's 10k.
Men's 10k
Ryan Fenton : Lenny Korir (Iona)
If this race is slow then my predictions are worth about as much as my socks....with all my travel you don't want to know what they look like! But with guys named Chelanga, Sambu and Korir I just don't see this race crawling. Three guys have run under 27:30 which at the start of the 2009 season was right around the collegiate record. If Sammy wants to go out on top he's got to put Korir/Sambu away early. I see it going around 28 pace which puts these three away from the field and after seeing the kick of Korir in the 5k indoors, its hard for me to route against that.
Paul Michel : Sam Chelanga (Liberty)
If you checked out our pre-race interviews this week with Chelanga, then you probably saw the same thing I saw. Chelanga seems to be hungrier than ever to extract some revenge on Korir from indoors. He should be poised, rested and ready for the win. Should be one for the ages!
Jake Gardner : Sam Chelanga (Liberty)
It doesn’t feel right not having him come away with a title. A PR of 27:08 last year, we all know he has the talent to get it done.
Kevin Liao : Leonard Korir (Iona)
Sam Chelenga is the collegiate record holder and defending champion, but has yet to prove himself against tough competition this year. Korir's has a PR of 27:29.
Ray Machuca : Elliott Heath (Stanford)
I've always loved Heath bars. They have more of an understated appeal than say, a Snickers bar.
Cate Westenhover : Sam Chelanga (Liberty)
Ok, he might be tired from doubling, but he did it successfully at regionals, winning both races there.
Kevin Sully : Sam Chalanga (Liberty)
Defending champion Chelanga hasn’t really shown his cards this season, but when you are the collegiate record holder, I’m going to assume that your cards are pretty good. Interesting team competition sub plot with Florida State’s O’Lionaird and Fout trying to score some points in an event without their main team rivals (Florida, Texas A & M) present.
Danny Mackey : Chris Derrick (Stanford)
Sambu and Chelenga will have something to say about this considering they have times that are under the World Champs A standard. I just really want Derrick to win. This not a completely out of line pick though, he did run under 13:30 at Payton Jordan and should be more fit now than he was 2 months ago because he was still coming back from injuries. Really in the end it goes back to my rule, Derrick is from Illinois and I think he might be a Cubs fan.
Ryan Craven : Elliott Heath (Stanford)
Sure he's got a 5k to run (and possibly win) but honestly who can close with this guy? Especially if the affair is tactical but even if its honest, Heath should be right there waiting to pounce.
