NCAA DI National Cross Country Coaches Poll — 2011, Week 2

NEW ORLEANS â€“ On Tuesday, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its week two national cross country coaches’ poll for the 2011 NCAA Division I season. Oklahoma State's men and Georgetown's women still reign as the top teams in the land and there was no change to national top three in both men's and women's polls. The most notable move came for Oklahoma's men who are now No. 4 -- the best ranking ever achieved for a Sooner cross country team.

 

AROUND THE POLLS

MEN
– NC State moved to a season-high ranking of No. 11.
– BYU reached a season’s best nod at 15th.
– Texas moved up the poll three spots to a tie for 22nd with Notre Dame.
– Three ranked teams are slated to compete this weekend at Minnesota’s Roy Griak Invitational, including No. 10 Portland, No. 11 NC State, and No. 24 Minnesota. In all six ranked teams are scheduled to compete this weekend, including No. 3 Stanford and No. 9 Florida State who host their own invitationals.
– With no teams dropping out of the top 30, the Big East again is the conference leader with six schools in the ranks. The Big Ten and ACC follow with four.

 

WOMEN
– Stanford moved to a season-best rank of sixth.
– With the true regular season beginning for Division I cross country, eleven ranked teams appear to be competing this weekend including five ranked teams at the Griak as No. 8 Iowa State, No. 10 Arizona, No. 11 Washington, No. 18 Penn State, and No. 21 NC State step to the plate to pick up their first "wins" of the season. 
– No. 25 Florida is expected to host No. 15 North Carolina at the Gators’ home Mountain Dew Invitational this weekend.
– The ACC has six teams to lead all conferences in the women’s top 30, followed by the Big East, Big Ten, and Pac-12 which have five each.

The NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships will be held on Monday, November 21, in Terre Haute, Ind. NCAA Regional Championships will be held nine days prior on Saturday, November 12.
