Alan Webb to race and progression in 2012
Alan Webb to race and progression in 2012
Alan Webb has had a shaky year and return to racing in the eyes of most. However, after battle the ups and downs of a few bad years, three different coaches, three different homes and dealing with pressures that come with being an American Record holder, it seems that Webb has turned a corner.
This past weekend at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational Webb showed steady improvement as he dropped his 1500 time by 5 seconds from his previous race and by 16 seconds from his run at the Florida Relays only three weeks prior. Three weeks ago Webb ran a 3:43/14:15 double in the 1500/5k in what was reported to be over about a two hour span (results & recap from GM). This past week at Stanford Webb turned in a 3:38/13:49 double....but this time in a matter of about 40 minutes! Webb did not win either ran and really wasn't contending for the win but he is showing steady signs of improvement. In reality, this past weekend's 1500 was Webb's fastest spring race since the 2008 season.

This weekend Webb is marked down to run the 800 meters at Duke University against training partner Robby Andrews and decathlon specialist Curtis Beach. Webb's last 800 was at the Florida Relays when he race 1:54 (FL Relays races 800 | 1500). After last weekend at Stanford we think Webb will have the confidence and momentum to carry him to a much faster mark. Start list below:

For Andrews and Beach, this will be a rematch of their 2009 New Balance Outdoor National Championships where Andrews outkicked Beach for the title. Results are below and following that a video of Beach talking in 2010 about how he was super hungry to race Robby Andrews again.
