Its Official: Felix and Tarmoh to have Run Off Monday at 5pm, NBC to air
Word was passed on from the USATF to the media moments ago that Jeneba Tarmoh and Allyson Felix will have a run off tomorrow in the 100 meters at 5:00pm Pacific Time. The event is to be aired live on NBC.
Eariler in the week Tarmoh and Felix tied for third place in the 100 meters, which was named a dead heat as officials were unable to determine who earned the final Olympic spot in the event. Tarmoh was first told she was third, Felix fourth but after further review a tie was announced. The USATF said that the decision on the tie break would be made today, following yesterday's 200 meter final where Felix became the fourth fastest woman of all time running 21.69. Tarmoh finished fifth in the event.
Official Rules of the Tie Break Procedure
- If there is another dead heat in the tie break run off, a coin flip will follow.
The athletes are teammates who run for Nike coach Bobby Kersee. Kersee was interviewed yesterday saying that the two would not be running today and suggested that the USATF would have to make a decision. Originally the USATF said everything would be decided on Sunday but an extra day was given for the athletes to have a day of rest after the 200 final. The USATF will still submit their Olympic Team to the USOC on Monday as originally scheduled.
