Ivan Ukhov Wins Gold and Erik Kynard Gets First Olympic Medal!!

Ivan Ukhov - Gold Medalist

Erik Kynard - Silver Medalist

It was a tight high jump final as 2011 World Bronze medalist Ivan Ukhov of Russia won gold in 2.38 meters and was followed by Kansas State grad Erik Kynard in 2.33 for Silver, his first Olympic medal! Bronze was a three-way tie as Derek Droubin of Canada, Essa Barshim of Quatar, and Robert Grabarz of Great Britain all jumped the same height of 2.29, each earning medals.  Jamie Nieto and Jesse Williams had less than stellar days. Nieto, 4th place finisher in Athens 2004 finished in 6th place with a height of 2.29m and 2011 World Champion Williams finished in 9th place with a height of 2.25m.
