Time Magazine Features Oscar Pistorius on Cover

From Albert Einstein to Ellen DeGeneres, TIME has featured some of the world's most influential and popular people on their weekly magazine cover. This week, Olympian Oscar Pistorius is featured shirtless with his running blades on the magazine's 90th anniversary edition.
In white text, the words "Man. Superman. Gunman" appear with the font size increasing with each word that follows. The photo was originally taken by Pieter Hugo and appeared in the New York Times in 2012.
The featured article by Alex Perry focuses on Pistorius and the culture of violence in South Africa. Early in his piece, he lays out his framework as he questions why violence is so prevalent, who is Oscar Pistorius, what happened and what needs to happen next for a country to improve. South Africa is riddled with violence and Perry makes the case that self-defense, like keeping a gun at home, is not out of the ordinary for protection.
TIME Magazine has previously interviewed Pistorius back in 2007, when most of the world did know who the double-amputee was. Writer Sean Gregory still believes Pistorius' character and identity is in question after the shooting and most recent events.
Among other track and field athletes to appear on the cover of TIME Magazine are Michael Johnson, Ben Johnson, Marion Jones, and Lolo Jones. Pistorius' cover will hit shelves on March 11th.
