Men's Heptathlon - Start Time: 11:00am
We're halfway there. Day one of the men's heptathlon concludes with Kevin Lazas of Arkansas leading the way with 3449 points. Heading into the high jump, Lazas had a decent gap on the field, but his lead was cut by solid jumps by Garrett Scantling (Georgia) and Japheth Cato of Wisconsin. Both Scantling and Cato cleared 2.11m (6-11), but then had three misses at 7-0.5.
Cato (3351) and Scantling (3323) trail Lazas with the 60mH, pole vault, and 1000m to come tomorrow.
Pumped.
Men's Shot Put - Start Time: 3:15pm
ASU's Jordan Clarke is an absolute beast. He wins yet another NCAA title with a throw of 67-03.25 (thanks Max). Kole Weldon of Texas Tech was 2nd (65-08.25) and Wisco's Danny Block's school record throw of 65-07.50 was good for third.
Women's Mile - Start Time: 5:30pm
Semifinal 1
It was the Emma Coburn show, but the Oregon girls looked darn good. Coburn lead for the majority of the race and gapped the field at roughly the 1000m mark. The field closed in on her over the last 350m, but the Olympian looked controlled. Anne Kesselring is a savvy racer and looked easy in the prelim as well.
Coburn gaps the field.
Watch out for Kesselring

The early stages of the race was full of indecision, but the picture became clear when FSU's Amanda Winslow took the lead. Winslow lead from about 400m until the finish and like Coburn in the first heat, looked very easy as she crossed the line. A big sleeper to keep an eye on is Georgia's Carly Hamilton.
The early pace wasn't too hot.
Winslow still leading.
Could Winslow be your NCAA champ?

Semifinal 1
We'll see more of these two. The first semifinal was basically an exhibition between Arizona's Lawi Lalang and NC State's Ryan Hill. Lalang was content to lead the majority of the race, but also covered surges pretty well. He's become a more complete racer this indoor season. Hill took a peak off both shoulders on the homestretch, so he (obviously) has more in the tank. Expect a battle between them.

Semifinal 2
The most intriguing semifinal of the day. It the pre-race favorite, a bunch of surges, and a tight finish. PSU's Robby Creese looked confident in the lead while Tulsa's Chris O'Hare lurked in the back. When O'Hare moved the front, Creese wasn't about to totally relinquish his pacing duties. Though O'Hare started to wind things up, Creese threw in two surges (the first was denied by O'Hare, the second was successful). Eventually, O'Hare took back the lead and finished comfortably. Mac Fleet, who looked good with a lap to go, finished 5th after a near blanket finish between him, Wisconsin's Austin Mudd, and Stanford's Michael Atchoo.
Creese denied.
O'Hare won't lose.
Tight finish.

When we talked to Aries Merritt earlier this season, he said that Brianna Rollins could break the American record this year. She definitely looked like a collegiate record holder in the first semifinal, where she set a new NCAA Indoor meet record (results below).

The big backstory was on Arizona's Georganne Moline, but the race was all Illinois' Ashley Spencer. The top three were close at 250m, but Kokorin powered away from the field to take the first semifinal. Coming off the final turn, Moline was in third but powered home for a second place.
Semifinal 2
Oh my gosh, Regina George isn't invincible. Yes I know - it's only a semifinal. But the press box is on the homestretch and she did not look like she looked calm as a cucumber.
The big story is Shaunae Miller from Georgia. Her winning time of 51.14 is the eighth fastest EVER for a collegian. Let that sink in.
Miller beat George to the turn where there was a bit of contact.
Semifinal 3
Ebony Eutsey came on strong in the final 100m to take the win.
Semifinal 4
You knew that one of these semifinals was going to have drama. As these women took the bell, there was a lot of contact on the turn (picture below) between Courtney Okolo (Texas) and Ibukun Mayunbe (A&M). They finished far behind one of the biggest dark horses of the meet.
Oregon's Phyllis Francis took the win and it's important that she's in form. If Oregon want to make a serious run at the title, she's going to have to be on point. I'm going to label her as Oregon's "X-Factor" going forward.
Men's 400m - Start Time: 6:40pm
Semifinal 1
The world leader, Deon Lendore, wins and leads Oregon's Mike Berry and Notre Dame Patrick F. under 46-seconds (the F is Feeney... just kidding, it's for fast).
Is "world class" really necessary?
Semifinal 2
Houston's Errol Nolan lead the way, but Florida's Najee Glass is one to watch. He's had some up and down races this year, but dipping under the 46-second barrier on the national stage is big for the freshman (he had broken 46.51 this season).
Semifinal 3
How would you describe David Verburg's (George Mason) speed? Incendiary or explosive?
Trick question: They're both correct.
Semifinal 4
Hugh Graham Jr. went from fourth at the bell, but came on strong to take the win. HUGE last 50m for Notre Dame's Christopher Giesting to take second (though it may not be enough to move on to the finals).
Women's 60m - Start Time: 6:55pm
Semifinal 1
This is Oregon's English Gardner being English Gardner. A well-executed race right next to LSU's Kimberlyn Duncan and a little personality at the end (some call it showboating, but whatever you call it, it fuels the fire).
Semifinal 2
Aurieyall Scott ran a near identical time to Gardner and looked just as smooth. It's going to be a tough call for the final tomorrow.
Men's 60m - Start Time: 7:05pm
Semifinal 1
OH. MY...
The favorite...

Semifinal 2
Harry Adams (Auburn) was cautioned, but avoided a false start. Results are not up yet, but if you guess the exact time and place for each athlete based on this picture... well, we'll be really really impressed.
Women's 800m - Start Time: 7:15pm
Semifinal 1
We couldn't tell, but it looked like Shelby Houlihan (ASU) nipped Kelsey Brown's (BYU) to cause a small pileup right after 400m.
We have to give Houlihan a lot of credit. Once she got her bearings, she sprung up like a Sun Devil right out of hell and was still in the hunt. We thought she had a shot at doing something special in the final as she's looked fantastic all year, but it's not to be.
One half of the LSU 800m contingent, Natoya Goule, lead most of the way and looked very strong (our dark horse pick).
Semifinal 2
Right before the gun went off, someone in the press box said, "Don't discount Laura Roesler." We didn't and we're happy that we never did. Benita Taylor (Hampton) did most of the early *quick* leading, but it was the veterans Charlene Lipsey (LSU) and Roesler (Oregon) that came on late.
Roesler is a gamer, but Lipsey wants a title; it's going to be a fine final.
Men's 800m - Start Time: 7:25pm
Semifinal 1
Declan Murray just doesn't care. Loyola's (Ill.) star came onto the scene at ND Meyo and hasn't lost any of his charm. He not only lead most of the way, but he took second (and had a little fist bump at the finish) to move onto the final.
But if you had to take something away from the first heat, it's no question that it's to fear Elijah Greer. The Oregon junior looked fine as he negative split his entire race.
Be weary of the flow.
Semifinal 2
Another #1 seed goes down!!! What's going on in Fayetteville?! The first picture doesn't tell the full story, but there are some reactions (mainly from Brandon McBride in the back) that help.
Arkansas' Leoman Momoh, the top seed in the 800m, went down just as the field passed the 200m. Some pundits had Arkansas scoring a maximum of 17 points in the 800m... not anymore.
Back to the actual race, the Fayetteville crowd finally had something to cheer about as Patrick Rono came on strong on the backstretch and eased to the finish. Oregon's Boru Guyota, who Alex Lohr said looked the best yesterday, powered all the way to the line to take the win.
The silent stalked who finished third? PSU's Cas Loxsom. Is this finally his year?
Another fall.

Women's 5000m Final - Start Time: 7:55pm
Abbey D'Agostino didn't leave it to a kick. Instead, just ran away from Iowa State's Betsy Saina to win the indoor 5000m.
Saina lead for much of the early stages of the race, but had D'Agostino on her shoulder the whole way. They weren't alone - the two leaders were closely followed by the single file line of Wichita State's Aliphine Tuliamuk-Bolton, Oregon's Jordan Hasay, Providence's Emily Sisson, and Boston University's Katie Matthews.
D'Agostino took the lead with a little more than a mile left and despite a trip on the rail (picture below), she wound up the pace and simply pulled away from Saina.
She left nothing to chance. She was clinical. She's your 5000m champ.

It was all Kennedy Kithuka, all the time. We have to give some credit to NAU's Diego Estrada who decided to stop leading the chase pack and actually put on a chase. He ran out of room before Kithuka could become a seasonal back-to-back NCAA champion.

Michigan was in the hunt the entire time and the Wolverines clamped their fangs down with 400m to go. Amanda Eccleston may have put the nail in the coffin, but kudos to the entire UM squad for running a complete race.

Peter "*************" Callahan. We knew that if Princeton was within three seconds of the lead on the anchor leg, then everyone would be in trouble. Right at the bell, Callahan made a huge move to the front and dropped a 26.2 to bring the title home to New Jersey.
