The leaders hit 15k in 45:50 (last 5k in 14:57). Hartmann and Cabada cross 15k in 46:05 (15:10 last 5k). Glenn Randall remains as the third American male at this point, 46:57 at 15k (15:53 last 5k).

Rob (a.k.a. Robin) Watson is leading the show...and starting to open up a small gap on the field!! OH CANADA! Watson, who has a marathon PR of 2:13, told Flotrack that he is in the best shape of his life. Formerly of the Speed River Track Club in Guelph, Ontario, Watson now trains by himself in Vancouver and is being coached by his brother Pete Watson (coach at the University of Virginia)

Watson now has approximately 7-10 seconds on the pack. The pack seems to be relaxing at this point with one of the slowest miles up front that we have seen in the race. One has to think they are going to drop the pace pretty soon with some splits under 5:00 pace.

Dickson Chumba of Kenya and Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia have opened up a lead on the pack and have started stringing things out a bit. Both Watson and Hartmann have fallen back. Returning champ Korir seems to have dropped back as well.

Based on our monitors in the media room we said it looked like the men we jogging and after seeing this split we weren't far off. The lead pack still holds 5 men and it looks like Welsey Korir is a distance 6th and trying to close the gap.

Gebremariam, Chumba, Kogo, Desisa and one more athlete are there. Korir is closing!!
At about 1:53:00 Wesley Korir is now with the leaders! The returner champ has a chance, but don't sleep on Micah Kogo. Kogo is one of the fastest ever 10k runners on the track with a PR of 26:35.

Wesley Korir started to pick up the pace and stretched things out but for only a few moments. Soon after Kogo, Gebremariam and Desisa respond and drop Korir from the lead group.

Kogo, Gebremariam and Desisa are all that remain in sight. Gebremarian has the most experience in the marathon right now. Desisa had a 2:04:45 marathon debut in Dubai back in January of this year.
