Asafa Powell, Sherone Simpson, and Three Other Jamaicans Test Positive
Apparently, July 14th is “World Come Clean Day.” Sky Sports News and The Telegraph have both reported that five Jamaicans, including Asafa Powell and Nesta Carter Sherone Simpson, have tested positive for a banned substance.
The BBC reports that Powell's management company has confirmed the positive test.
This news comes just hours after Pat Graham of The Associated Press announced that Tyson Gay tested positive for a banned substance. Reportedly, no "B" samples have been tested.
Powell is currently ranked third in the world with a 9.88 finish in Lausanne. He's the fourth fastest 100m sprinter of all-time behind Usain Bolt, Gay, and Yohan Blake.
A statement from Powell about the report is embedded below.
Carter, who was a member of Jamaica's 4x100m gold medal team in both '08 and '12, is currently ranked second in the world with his 9.87 win in Madrid from July 13th.
In case you wanted to see how reportedly "doped up" sprinters fared against everyone else this season, here’s Gay and Powell’s 100m race from Lausanne.
When it rains, it pours.
