Survive and Advance: Usain Bolt runs 10.07 after false start scare
Looking to redeem himself after false starting in the 100-meter final at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, Usain Bolt’s passed his first test winning the seventh and final section of the men’s 100-meter dash in 10.07.
The win did not come without a quick scare. Moments after the start gun went off, the runners were recalled due to a false start. Not again.
It would be Kemar Hyman of the Cayman Islands, in lane next to Bolt, who was guilty of the false start and disqualified. Bolt says he saw the early movement and knew he was cleared of any wrong-doing.
Bolt’s time of 10.07 was the seventh fastest on the day. In the third section of the men’s 100, American sprinter Justin Gatlin became the first runner to dip under 10.00 for 100-meters on Russian soil. Compatriot Mike Rodgers would best that mark in the sixth section with his winning time of 9.98.
At last summer’s Olympic games, the slowest time to qualify for the 100-meter semifinals was 10.23 by Rondel Sorrillo of Trinidad and Tobago. Great Britain’s James Dasalou was the last qualifier after running 10.20 to finish fourth in the fourth section.
Sunday’s semifinal takes place at 10:05 a.m. CT. The final is scheduled for 12:50 p.m. CT.
