NEW ORLEANS – On a week where the other two NCAA Divisions’ regional rankings were quiet, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III Regional Rankings released Tuesday are anything but with new teams atop two of the men’s regions.

REGIONAL PDFs: Regional Summary | Week-by-Week | Division III XC Rankings Central

The MIT men engineered a dominant and decisive win over a trio of national top-35 teams — including No. 5 Bowdoin — to catapult from No. 6 to No. 1 in the men’s New England Region, while Wabash took control of the Great Lakes Region from Calvin.

MIT placed its top five runners within the top 13 at the Southern Maine Invitational for a team score of 37 to national No. 7  Bates’ 85, No. 5 Bowdoin’s 86 and No. 11 Tufts’ 95.

Wabash won the "Little State" division of the Indiana Intercollegiate with a score of 42 to defeat Division II’s Indianapolis by three points and the nearest DIII school, Manchester, by 33 points.

In the Atlantic Region, SUNY Cortland regained sole control of the top spot in the region from NYU, though NYU holds the advantage in first-place votes – 7 to 4.

Carleton’s men round out the big moves in the DIII Regional Rankings, leaping four spots from No. 6 to No. 2 in the Central Region.

By comparison, the women’s regions were much less active. Carleton’s women joined the men at No. 2 in the Central Region after overtaking St. Olaf for the most significant move of the week. The Oles fell one spot to No. 3 despite a National Athlete of the Week performance by freshman Noelle Olson.

While the NYU men fell one spot out of a tie at the top to No. 2 in the Atlantic Region, the NYU women improved one position to No. 3 and earned one of the region’s first-place votes.

NCAA Division III Regionals will be held Sunday, November 16. More information can be found at Regional Championships Central.
