Mo Farah's marathon training begins

After a summer of adding more gold medals to his collection, Olympic and World Champion Mo Farah has returned to training with the Nike Oregon Project in Portland. Farah joined Alberto Salazar's training group in early 2011 to prepare for the IAAF World Championships and 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

Farah is set to debut at the 26.2 mile distance by running the 2014 London Marathon on April 13. Last year, Farah got a taste of the marathon course by running half of the London Marathon in just over an hour. His appearance fee for the 2013 London Marathon was reportedly estimated at Â£450,000.

Recently a lot of buzz surrounded Farah and the mystique of a sub-two hour marathon, but he put an end to those talks by calling them "ridiculous." Farah would have to shave at least three minutes off the current world record of 2:03:23. Wilson Kipsang set the new record at the 2013 Berlin Marathon.

The current course record at the London Marathon is 2:04:40 set by Emmanuel Mutai in 2011. Eamonn Martin was the last British winner of the London Marathon in 1993. A win by Farah would be the sixth by the United Kingdom since the first running in 1981.

The British record in the marathon could be a goal for Farah as the record stands at 2:07:13 set by Steve Jones in 1985. Salazar has already coached Dathan Ritzenhein to a time close to that mark as the American ran 2:07:47 at the 2012 Chicago Marathon.
