Analysis:
Even though there are, at present, no new SMU impact players for this year, don’t be surprised if Coach Cathy Casey comes away from the World Juniors in Eugene with another European to keep the flow going.

 

There isn’t an NCAA team with a more European flavor than the Lady Mustangs. They are good enough imports to take this team to the dance. They are all very experienced with Euro Cross Country Championship and World Junior Cross Country races in their past. And they have been to Terre Haute before as well.

Agnes Sjostrom from Sweden was their top finisher last year at the NCAA where they were the very last team. She was 155th and should be better this time around. Her 16:09 5k on the track last spring is a good indicator of a higher place.

 

Tova Magnusson should have been their number one last year in Terre Haute based on the entire season, but got stuck in the mud and will no doubt have the desire to redeem herself this fall. She cranked out a 10:07 3k steeple on the track last spring, and that is a quality work. Tova is also a Swede. No surprise there.
