Analysis:
New York is a big state to recruit from, but there are a lot of schools that recruit New York. Chris Fox has managed to gather from the Empire State the majority of his scoring team that was 10th last year at the big meet.

No different this year, he got top New York State harrier, Mickey Burke, who was 4th at the Foot Locker Nationals last year and ran 9:02 on the track for 3200m. Burke will be a nice piece to the Orangemen puzzle, but he is not alone. Over the border signee, Justyn Knight, from Toronto, managed to be the first non-African in the World Junior Championships 5k in July, clocking a 14:08 along the way. Having said that, these frosh will probably have to wait their turn to lead the Orangemen. Martin Herir, MJ Erb, Ryan Urie, and Max Straneva are all back from their 10th place team from last year, and that is the main reason Fox can sleep well at night.

Herir had a nice breakout year with 3rd in the Northeast Region, leading his team to the Region championship. He showed it was no fluke, with his 13:50 5k and 29:10 10k efforts this last spring. He will be their leader. While senior Ryan Urie was not quite as effective on the track last spring, he showed his cross country chops with a 16th in the Regional last year.

Senior Stravena had a nice track season with a 14:00 5k, and this indicates that he might be even more help this fall for Fox and company. Sophomore MJ Erb was 59th in the big race last November as a freshman and ran a nice 8:50 3k steeple. Look for him to mature and help this team even more this year.

A strong upperclassmen group, along with a couple of outstanding freshman spell NCAA Championships again for this team from the school listed as one of the top party schools in the country. Coach Fox is hoping they have a reason to party come November.
