Mary Cain returns at 5th Ave Mile
Nike Oregon Project star Mary Cain will return to competition at the New York Road Runners 5th Avenue Mile on Sept. 13. Coach Alberto Salazar told Ken Goe of the Oregonian the World Juniors 3,000-meter gold medalist is healthy and focused on starting school.
Initial plans penned Cain for a fast 1,500-meter race in Zurich, but the trip to Europe would have caused her to miss school for a few days. Cain is enrolled as a freshman at the University of Portland, but will not compete for the Pilots after foregoing NCAA eligibility and signing with Nike before the 2014 season.
Expect the New York crowd to cheer for the Bronxville native in her road mile debut.
