2015 NCAA Women's Shot Put Preview

Christina Hillman, Iowa State (PB 18.15m)
Last Year: 1st Indoors, 1st Outdoors
Hillman had a flawless 2014, winning both NCAA indoor and outdoor titles. She did not just win, but demolished the competition. Her indoor throw was almost a full meter ahead of runner-up Valentina Muzaric, while her outdoor toss was equally impressive. Pending any major tragedies, we think 2015 will be Hillman’s year, again.

Kearsten Peoples, Missouri (PB 18.22m)
Last Year: 3rd Indoors, 3rd Outdoors
Peoples recorded the best throw in the NCAA indoor season with 17.81m in 2014. Her consistency makes her dangerous. She represented Team USA at the Pan-American Sports Festival this summer, placing fourth. A seventh-place finish at USATF Outdoors is another note on her resume that gives her an edge on the competition, as she’ll be Hillman’s top threat in 2015.

Valentina Muzaric, Auburn (PB 17.89m)
Last Year: 2nd Indoors, 10th Outdoors
Mazuric threw her way to an Auburn school record when she finished runner-up in 2014. Though her outdoor season wasn’t as impressive (finishing 10th at not throwing over 17.08m), we think this will fuel her fire going into the indoor season, thus making her one to fear.

Jill Rushin, Missouri (PB 17.62m)
Last Year: 6th Indoors, 12th Outdoors
Something’s in the water in Missouri, that’s for sure. Rushin threw a monster PB of 17.62m outdoors in 2014 and finished right behind teammate Peoples in the USATF Finals. The SEC Outdoor Champ is ready to team up with her fellow Tiger teammate to shake the NCAA this indoor season.

Tori Bliss, LSU (PB 17.48m)
Last Year: N/A Indoors, 2nd Outdoors
Bliss found her place at the top of the NCAA when she finished runner-up during the outdoor season, with over a full meter PB from her best indoor throw. If she can produce similar stellar throws during the indoor season, she could find herself contending for a national title.

Brittany Mann, Oregon (PB 17.07m)
Last Year: N/A Indoors, 7th Outdoors
Mann came in clutch for the Ducks at NCAA Outdoors when she contributed points while the team was in the hunt. In her redshirt freshman year at Oregon, she smashed the school record with her 17.07m PB and earned the Ducks their first All American shot putter since 1985. With one comfortable and outstanding season under her belt, Mann will be one to watch for 2015.
