A 400m showdown between Francena McCorory, Sanya Richards-Ross, and Phyllis Francis is set to take place Feb. 14 at the NYRR Millrose Games at The Armory.
McCorory and Richards-Ross are opening the season after a hard fought-battle at the 2014 USATF Outdoor Championships where McCorory edged out the Olympic champion for a personal best and her first national championship since 2010. McCorory also captured the 2014 World Indoor title.
Richards-Ross returned to the track in 2014 after toe surgery that sidelined her for months. Three months into her comeback, the four-time Olympic Champion secured a runner-up finish to McCorory at the USATF Outdoor Championships, and continued her season with multiple victories in the Diamond League circuit.
Recent Oregon alum Phyllis Francis will also toe the line for her professional debut. The collegiate record-holder in the 400m returns to her home state of New York to match up against the former collegiate record-holder McCorory. Francis clocked the record last year while winning the NCAA Indoor Championships in 50.46.
This year’s NYRR Millrose Games also features Olympic gold medalist in the pole vault Jenn Suhr, world champion hurdlers Jason Richardson and David Oliver and 2014 World 800m leader Ajee' Wilson. Ashton Eaton, the decathlon and indoor pentathlon world record holder will also compete Feb. 14 at The Armory.
