Rupp Out For Remainder of Indoor Season

Galen Rupp
will no longer be running the 5000m at this weekend’s New York Road Runner’s Millrose Games.

Rupp, who set two indoor American records in 2014 (2 mile, 5000m) and placed fourth in the 3000m at the IAAF World Indoor Championships has cancelled the remainder of his indoor season, citing illness.

Below is a statement from Galen:

“I am disappointed to have to miss the Millrose Games due to an untimely illness.  My training has gone very well this winter but the last 4-5 weeks I have not felt like myself.  I had some tests done last week which confirmed that I was fighting a virus and will need to take some time off to recover.  Despite backing off significantly in my training the past week I have not been getting better and will not be competing in any more races this indoor season. I will take a break now to fully recover before getting ready for the outdoor season and the IAAF World T&F Championships in Beijing in August."

The 5k field at the Millrose Games is no joke. With Rupp out of the mix, perhaps it’s his Nike Oregon Project teammate Cam Levins’ turn to rule the indoor world in 2015. Levins won the mile (3:54.74) and two mile (8:15.38) at the Armory Invitational on Jan. 31.

Below is the full field announced for the 5000m at the Millrose Games:

Andrew Bumbalough, USA
