Laura Roesler at UTSA!
The 2014 Bowerman Award winner will be making her outdoor debut this Saturday at the UTSA Challenge Invite which you can watch LIVE on FloTrack!
Since winning two individual 800m titles and setting an indoor collegiate record in the 4x400m relay in 2014, Roesler graduated from Oregon, signed with Nike and now trains in San Antonio with her coach Rose Monday.
She will have good company in her outdoor debut, slated to go off at 1:35pm CT Saturday. Training partner Dana Mecke holds a personal best of 2:02.85 from the Adrian Martinez Classic in 2014 where she took down a stacked field for the win. Alongside Roesler and Mecke is Former Texas Longhorn Kendra Chambers who has run 2:03.91. There’s one name on the list that caught our attention, as well, and that’s Briana Nelson. Nelson graduated from Texas in 2014 and was a valuable member of their 4x400m relay for many seasons. Word on the street is Nelson will rabbit these ladies in the 800m, so you know it’ll be a fast one.
Roesler opened up in her signature event last season with a 2:01.10, but she rested during the indoor season to nurse an injury, pulling out of the Millrose Games a few days before the competition. How fast will this crew go? You’ll need to tune in to find out!
Another big name on the entries is Commonwealth Games champion Andrew Riley in the 110m hurdles. A four-time NCAA Champion, the Jamaican native will be opening up in his premiere event where he holds a personal-best time of 13.14.
Collegiate Competition
Teams from UTSA, Texas, Texas Tech, Kentucky, Manhattan, and Texas A&M-Cc will be in attendance.
4:01 miler Robert Sandlin, formerly of Bellermine but now at the University of Kentucky, highlights the men’s 1500m field, slated to go off at 12:45pm CT.
