Mo Farah Breaks Euro Record, Wins Lisbon Half

Mo Farah won the Lisbon Half Marathon in a new personal best of 59:32 today in Lisbon, Portugal, just nipping Kenyan Micah Kogo who finished one second back in 59:33. Farah set a British and European record on Sunday, becoming the first Brit to break one hour over 13.1 miles. The 31-year-old’s 2015 campaign has so far gone according to plan- the two-mile world record in February, and now an impressive win over a deep field of East Africans in the half marathon.

Farah stayed patient throughout the race, letting Kogo and Stephen Kibet lead until around 18k when he started to move up on the Kenyans. After his huge surge, Kibet was dropped by 20k and it was just the double Olympic champion and Kogo left to duke it out over the final mile. Farah used his superior closing speed to gap Kogo in the final straightaway, smashing his old PB by nearly 30 seconds. Kogo’s time was the second fastest of his career.

After crossing the line, Farah took an unfortunate spill on the pavement, but reported that he was doing just fine afterwards.
