Athletics Kenya
has suspended two athlete firms, Rosa Associati and Volare Sports, for six months due to doping accusations surrounding athletes represented by these two firms. According to CapitalFMSports, these firms have been responsible for 36 athletes testing positive, including the most high profile case at the moment, 2x Boston and Chicago Marathon Champion Rita Jeptoo.

Volare Sports, managed by Dutchman Gerard Van de Veen, works with 50 Kenyan athletes, notables include marathon world record holder Dennis Kimetto, former world record holder and 2014 World Marathon Majors champion Wilson Kipsang and Geoffrey Mutai

Van de Veen told the Dutch newspaper, NOS, that he was angry and confused by the allegations and penalties assessed by AK.

"I have received no official communication [from AK]," Van de Even said. "I have to hear it through the press, what you say now here. It is outrageous. I feel that it is a political game.

"If someone in Kenya would give any evidence that I give athletes doping, then a suspension is justified. But that is not the case. There is no evidence."

In recent years, two Volare athletes have received doping suspensions. Flomena Chepchirchir is currently serving a six-month suspension while Lilian Jelegat was given a two-year ban in 2013 for EPO use.

Rosa Associati, comprised of Dr. Gabrielle Rosa and his son Federico, manages 1500m world champion Asbel Kiprop. Rosa's reputation has been more clouded by doping suspision over the years. In addition to representing Jeptoo, he has also managed Matthew Kisorio, who tested positive for steroids in 2012, and Jemima Sumgong, the 2014 New York City Marathon third-place finisher who received a two-year ban by AK for prednisone use in 2012. That ban was later reversed.

These two particular management firms are responsible for a number of other elite athletes. Athletics Kenya states that they will work with the IAAF as well as meet officials of the Diamond League to make sure these athletes do not miss competition opportunities while they are without an agent.
