RESULTS: London Marathon 2015
London, UK
April 26th, 2015
The 2015 London Marathon is the 35th edition of the event. Some 20,000 people wanted to run the first race on March 29, 1981; 7,747 were accepted. There were 6,255 finishers, led home by the American Dick Beardsley and Norwegian Inge Simonsen who staged a spectacular and fitting dead-heat at the rain-swept finish on Constitution Hill in 2:11:48. Joyce Smith, 43 years old and a mother of two, broke the British record to win the women’s race in 2:29:57, then the third fastest time ever by a woman. The course records today stand as 2:04:29 on the men's side, set by Kenya's Wilson Kipsang in 2014, and 2:15:25 on the women's side, set by Paula Radcliffe in 2003. The latter time still stands as the world record.
