Top 10 NCAA Preliminary Moments: Day 1
Top 10 NCAA Preliminary Moments: Day 1
1. The West men's 10K was won by 2014 Champion Oregon's Edward Cheserek in 29:43. The pack dwindled down to about 15 after 5K, and finally 10 men were packed together and cruising their way to punching tickets to Eugene.

Also interestingly enough, Colorado's Pierce Murphy ran a majority of the race WITHOUT HIS SHOE. Interview HERE.2. Notre Dame's Molly Seidel won the women's East 10K in 33:38 over Tennessee's Chelsea Blaase in 33:47.

3. With a monster kick to win the women's West 10K, Air Force Academy's Hannah Everson was victorious in 34:23. Favorites Arkansas' Dominique Scott and 2014 NCAA Champion Emma Bates finished third and fourth, respectively, and will advance the Eugene.

4. Purdue's Matt McClintock took the men's East 10K in 29:47 but let's give it up for Brandon Lord of Georgia.

5. May Madness! Villanova's Sam McEntee did NOT advance to the quarterfinals of the 1500m in the East. The 3:36 man and All American finished sixth in heat 1, just .01 behind David Timlin of Indiana State. What's more unfortuante is that McEntee finished 13th in the East in 2014, .01 behind the final qualifier into the NCAA Championships.
6. NCAA Champ OUT!
Ronnie Baker of TCU, the 2015 60m Champion, false started in the 100m prelims in the West. Baker had run 9.99 (w) and 10.05 wind-legal this outdoor season.

7. Other NCAA Champs OUT!Remona Burchell and Courtney Okolo did not start in the 100m or 400m, their respective events that won them NCAA titles last spring. The University of Texas confirmed that Okolo is injured and may return for the 4x400m relay at some point in the season. Burchell's status is unknown.
8. Legal Wind Barely Existent in ATX
The wind in Austin, Texas provided some crazy fast times in the 100m prelims at the West, as hardly any were registered as wind-legal. Oregon's Jasmine Todd and Jenna Prandini were the top two finishers from the women's prelims, clocking 10.89 and 11.06, respectively. Todd's time is No. 3 all-conditions in the world right now.

9. Alabama's Alex Amankwah did not advance to the 800m quarterfinals in the East. His best outdoor mark of 1:45.91 was the No. 4 fastest mark in the NCAA this season.10. Florida's Marquis Dendy won the East long jump easily in 8.05m, but his teammate KeAndre Bates did not qualify for the NCAA Championships. This could mean valuable points for the No. 1 ranked Florida Gators, as Bates, only a freshman, scored in the long jump (3rd) and triple jump (7th) at the Indoor Championships.
