An Idiot's Guide To The FloTrack Throwdown
You know Eaton and Symmonds are gonna be there, but what else is happening at #FloThrowdown?
BREAKING: Galen Rupp to run the mile!
You may have heard by now that we’re hosting a track meet this Saturday in Portland.
You may have also been busy living your life the last few weeks and only heard a few details about the inaugural FloTrack Throwdown, and aren’t quite sure what we’ve been planning over here at Flo Headquarters. If that’s you, don’t worry, I’m here to help fully explain what’s going on this Saturday at Duniway Park, I’ve written a situational Q&A to cover all the facts of the FloTrack Throwdown.
What is the FloTrack Throwdown? It sounds like a WWE event, or something.
Nah, it’s a track meet, FloTrack’s first ever in fact. It’s this Saturday August 8th at Portland’s Duniway Park, doors open at 4:30pm PT. Tickets are $10 online and $15 at the door.
Ok, cool. Where is Duniway Park?
Downtown Portland. Here’s a map:
And you guys aren’t going to change the location at the last minute?
Haha, good one. But no. It’s at Duniway Park.
So there’s going to be beer?
You know there’s gonna be beer! Fans at sporting events should be able to kick back and have a cold one, and track is no different. Local brewery Rogue Ales and Spirits in Portland will be hosting a beer garden at the Throwdown with $1 from every purchase going into the athlete prize purse. Gotta be 21+ of course.
Nice. Wait, didn’t you guys already do the beer thing awhile back?
You’re thinking of the FloTrack World Beer Mile Championships. This is different.
How so?
Well, for one the athletes aren’t going to be drinking beer. This is a bona fide world-class track meet, with Olympic and World champions. The races should be fast and exciting.
I guess I should say that the athletes aren’t going to be drinking beer during the meet, but many of them are going to stick around for the post-meet party. Our buddy Nick Symmonds is always down to crack a cold one.
Tell me more about those races.
Definitely.
Duane Solomon and Cas Loxsom are going to battle in the men’s 800, while Maggie Vessey and Lauren Wallace will meet in the women’s 800. The men’s mile has 3:52 milers David Torrence and Pat Casey, with Brenda Martinez and Gabe Grunewald headlining the women’s mile. Full entries here. Oh and RUPP!
What’s Maggie going to wear?
Your guess is as good as mine. My gut tells me something floral.
But while we wait for Saturday, take a look at some of her best racing kits.
Didn’t I see something about Trey Hardee? What’s he doing?
Yeah we made a video.
But yeah, he’s doing the pole vault against Ashton. Gearing up for Worlds.
Sounds legit. What else is going on outside the track?
So much.
There’s going to be food trucks, live music, and games. And did I mention beer?
Yeah, you did.
Just checking.
