Analysis:

The Tar Heels lose a great low-stick this 2015 season in Annie LeHardy, but the depth on this team, as well as some new additions, should put this squad possibly in the top 20 come November. Junior Lizzy Whelan can lead this young team with her fantastic credentials on the track (2:05 / 4:15.) If she can show consistency and assert herself in the lead pack, she can lead this young team. Karley Rempel, who finished 1 spot behind Whelan at NCAA XC Nationals last year, will also be an important piece in the Tar Heel’s success. Rempel goes into the 2015 season with great momentum after a breakout season on the track this past spring, setting personal bests in the 800m (2:08), 1500m (4:20), and 3K (9:44). The Whelan/Rempel punch up front will put the young guns in a great spot to be successful.

Hannah Christen and Caroline Alcorta will be huge contributors to this squad. Both of these ladies are coming off fantastic first years on the track, both qualifying for the 2015 Pan-American Games and both competing at the NCAA meet in Terre Haute last year, finishing within 2 seconds of each other. Now, with a year of intense competition under their belts, this sophomore duo will enter the 2015 season with momentum, maturity, and experience. Incoming freshman Lucy Biles, Melbourne transfer Stella Redford, and graduate student Mattie Webb will battle for that number five slot. All three of these ladies have fantastic credentials to add to this talented roster and all have the potential to contribute to this year’s cross country season.
