FloAwards: Allie Ostrander and Boise State Rise Up in Rankings

From the Battle in Beantown in Boston to the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, cross country performances tore up courses around the country to earn the first fall edition of FloAwards.

FloFrosh

Allie Ostrander (Boise State)
The freshman from Kenai High School in Alaska rolled out a runner-up finish at the Roy Griak Invitational, leading her squad to a team title in Minneapolis. Ostrander finished second to Cal’s Bethan Knights and gathered valuable points for her squad that totaled 37 points over defending NCAA Champs Michigan State. And she did it all just two days after recovering from food poisoning.

Grant Fisher (Stanford)
The Stanford newcomer made his collegiate debut at the Stanford Invitational with a runner-up finish to his teammate Sean McGorty. Fisher battled for the runner-up finish against Chico State’s William Reyes who finished three seconds behind Fisher. Fisher finished the fast-paced Stanford course in 23:33 while McGorty finished in 23:07.

Lawrence Kipkoech (Campbell)
The XC true freshmen turned out a big time performance at the Panorama Farms Invitational with a runner-up finish to Erik Peterson of Butler. Kipkoech is returning to competition after finishing 10th in the 10K at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June.

FloTeam

Boise State Women
The Broncos threw down a stunning team win over 2014 NCAA Championship team Michigan State at the Roy Griak Invitational. Led by a freshmen trio of Allie Ostrander (2nd), Annie Bothma (3rd) and Minttu Hukka (6th), Boise State tallied 37 points to take down the Spartans’ 116 runner-up team total. The performance catapulted the Broncos to No. 10 in the Saucony Flo50 XC Countdown.
Michigan State Men
The Spartans turned out a break-out race at the Roy Griak Invitational with a team title over Southern Utah, California, and Colorado State. The squad was led by TJ Carey who finished seventh and led the team to a hard-fought team title of 74 points, 14 points ahead of Southern Utah. The team’s score was possibly the most impressive part of the win as  Carey and the No. 5 runner Chris Collier were separated by just 35 seconds.

Providence Women
The Friars started the first big weekend of XC with a bang after tallying a team total of 42 points over No. 18-ranked Syracuse, and previously No. 4-ranked Georgetown. Led by a 1-2 punch by Catarina Rocha and Sarah Collins, Providence captured the team win with all five finishers in the top 16, totaling 85 points ahead of runner-up Syracuse.
