Twitter Freaks Out Over Mile vs 1500
Syracuse All-American Justyn Knight, who is Canadian, wondered why the NCAA would move away from a distance that is raced internationally:[tweet url="https:
Why make it a mile when the rest of the world is preparing for the 1500m at World competitions.

Two-time NCAA 1500 champion and current Nike pro Mac Fleet also wasn't loving a possible return to the mile, as he jokingly tweeted this response:
May as well change the other events to US system of measurement too. Half mile, 3 mile, 6 mile. That'll bring more fans in for sure.

Former Dartmouth star Ben True, who represented Team USA at this summer's IAAF World Championships and runs professionally for Saucony, clearly doesn't agree with the concept that the mile is a productive switch for the NCAA:
@FloTrack @themile why? Are we going to switch the 5k to the 3miler and the 800m to the 880? This is a step backwards in my opinion
— Ben True (@bentrue) December 18, 2015
2015 NCAA 1500 champion Chad Noelle of Oklahoma State shared a similar line of thinking to what I presented yesterday:
The Trials and Worlds accept mile conversions but Olympics don't, correct? That could be a problem for American milers trying to qualify.

Former Stanford Cardinal Chris Derrick wants proof that the mile is why people watch:
Since the proposed change to a mile is ostensibly being made to engage fans, is there evidence indoor NCAA's is more popular than outdoors?
— Chris Derrick (@CDerrickRun) December 18, 2015
Colorado Buff John Dressel not on board yet with the change maybe he becomes a steepler as a result? :-)
Not really in favor for this. I can see the mile as an event for NCAA indoors and invites, but NCAA outdoors? https://t.co/kjQC4EZagy

Former Villanova Wildcat Sheila Reid says it's 'male nostalgia' to blame:
While the mile might be significant for men (sub-4) there is no such significance for women. This isn't marketability it's male nostalgia.
— Sheila Reid (@shewolfruns) December 18, 2015
Former UConn Huskie Mike Rutt has great analysis:
The switch to a mile at NCAAs will only add an extra 109 meters of jogging. #JustSaying
— Mike Rutt (@Mike_Rutt) December 19, 2015
Former FloTrack employee Mitch Kastoff describing twitter:
Former Temple Owl Travis Mahoney may need to start prepping for new steeple barrier placement:
Wait... so does this mean I have to run the 2 mile steeplechase?
— Travis Mahoney (@UrbanSteepler) December 19, 2015
George Lucas started it:
Star Wars: The Mile Awakens

Harvard's star freshman Myles Marshall is proud to be an American!
The change from the 1500 to the Mile is a big, fat American slap in the face to every other country in the world and I Love it. #merica

Former Miami Red Hawk Daniel Huling throwing shade:
Any college coach that votes to replace the 1500 with the mile at NCAA's should not be taken seriously.
— Daniel Huling (@DanielHuling) December 15, 2015
Cal senior Thomas Joyce is freaking out:
