Abdi Abdirahman Scratches from 2016 Olympic Marathon Trials
Four-time Olympian Abdi Abdirahman has scratched from the 2016 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials, reports Chris Chavez of Sports Illustrated.

Abdirahman, or Abdi, was shooting for his fifth Olympic team on February 13 in Los Angeles. According to Agent Ray Flynn, Abdi injured his left calf and lost several days of training. He represented the U.S. in the 10,000m at the 2000 (10th), 2004 (15th) and 2008 (15th) Olympic Games. He finished third in the 2012 Olympic Marathon Trials but dropped out in London after 10 miles. His marathon personal best of 2:08:56 comes from his fourth-place finish in the 2006 Chicago Marathon and his last marathon was a 16th-place effort in the 2014 Boston Marathon (2:16:06).

He would have been the first American distance runner to make five Olympic teams, but said he has not ruled out a qualifying attempt in the 10,000m in July. "Everything good comes to an end but this isn't the end," Abdi told Chavez of SI. "I just have to focus on the next chapter of my career and gear up for the next marathon and then the 10K."
