Team USA will be sporting the blue of the United States flag as Nike unveiled the new uniforms to be worn by athletes at the 2016 Olympic Games. The sportswear giant displayed the uniforms as well as new cutting edge technology at their innovation summit in New York City on Wednesday and Thursday.
Other countries who have Nike as their federation sponsor such as 2016 host country Brazil, Canada and Kenya also had their Olympic uniforms on display.
Four-time Olympic gold medalist Allyson Felix was present to not only model the new uniform, but also give a demonstration on the custom spikes that Nike designed for the sprinter. The shoe designers at Nike developed a spike that is adapted to specifically match Felix’s biomechanics and the demands of the 200m and 400m events.
The details of the uniforms include “aero blade” spikes on the leg sleeves, which as the Wall Street Journal’s Sara Germano reported, “make the air move faster around the athlete.”
