WATCH THE FLORIDA STATE RELAYS ON MARCH 25th & 26th LIVE!
Some of track’s biggest high school, NCAA and professional stars will be at the FSU Relays this weekend, hosted by Florida State.
SCHEDULE AND ENTRIES
Florida State Relays will be an unbeatable mix of college and high school competition, featuring top NCAA squads from Alabama, Mississippi State, Southern Miss and Florida State, as well as the best high school athletes from the southeast area. The intense college competition will engage in an exciting quadrangular scored meet. A couple notable races to pay attention to on the college side include the men’s 800m and the men’s 4x100m.
NCAA 800m qualifier Jake Burton and teammate Otniel Teixeira of Florida State highlight the men’s 800m, while Harry Mulenga will take on two-time NCAA 800m champion Brandon McBride over 1500m.
McBride, who did not contest the 800m this indoor season, ran on the sixth-place Miss. State 4x400m team at the NCAA Championships. He ran personal best times over the 1000m (2:23.60) and mile (4:11.96) this winter. This marks his first outdoor 1500m contest.
Watch Brandon McBride talk about skipping most of the indoor season to focus on longer training.
The men’s 4x100m showdown features top-ranked relay squads from Florida State and Alabama who are returning after 2015 seasons that included top NCAA Outdoor Championship finishes. Last year Alabama finished eighth in the NCAA final with a time of 39.63 and Florida State finished ninth overall with a time of 39.48 in the semifinal.
The Seminoles will also debut a pack of stud freshmen sprinters in Darryl Haraway, Edward Clarke and Raheem Robinson. Haraway won the 100m at the 2014 New Balance Nationals Outdoor Championship, which was No. 2 in the U.S. at the time. Clarke was the lead-off leg of the high school world record-setting 4x100m (39.08) squad of Calabar High School, and Robinson holds a blazing fast 100m personal best of 10.37. All three will be tough challengers heading into the sprint competition over the weekend.
The high school action will be the best ever as more than 110 teams from seven states will meet in Tallahassee to face off. Competition will be fierce as the meet is restricted to the top athletes in each event from the southeast.
Stay tuned for an extensive preview of all the best high school match-ups coming up.
