Molly Huddle joins a long list of Americans who ran their debut marathon in New York.
The 31-year-old superstar will run the New York City Marathon in November after this summer's Olympic Trials and Games. The New York Times first reported the story Thursday morning.
Deena Kastor, Meb Keflizighi, Shalane Flanagan, Dathan Ritzenhein, Alberto Salazar, Lauren Fleshman, Laura Thweatt, Bobby Curtis, and other notable Americans made their career debuts at 26.2 through the five boroughs.
Huddle is the American record holder in the 5K and the #2 all-time American in the 10K and half-marathon. Her decorated track career includes a fourth-place finish at last summer's world championships, which was marred by a celebration at the line that cost her a bronze medal.
Huddle told the Times this morning that “I had a hard time finding something constructive with it. I’m not really able to turn that experience into a motivator. It’s better to just move on.”
