Competing in Windsor, Canada, 21-year-old Corey Bellemore ran a time that could be a new beer mile world record. (The ABV of the beer is yet to be verified, but it needs to be over 5.0% to count for a world record.) Watch the video:
I had Bellemore's beers at 5.74, 6.84, 7.17 and 8.15, and his 400s at 60.39, 63.65, 64.46, 63.13 for a total time of 4:39.6. I actually got the exact-same time as the guy hand-timing in the video, 4:39.56, but hand times are supposed to be rounded up to the nearest tenth and then have 0.24 seconds added. Even on the hand, Bellemore--a 1:47 800m runner and recent bronze medalist in the 800m at the U23 NACACs--is the first man to break 4:40.
Fellow Canadian Lewis Kent set the current world record of 4:47 at the FloTrack Beer Mile World Championships in December.
