Five Events To Watch At The Legends Of Track & Field Invitational
This Friday and Saturday, UCLA will host several much-anticipated outdoor performances at the Legends & Distance Carnival. Check out the top five events to watch starting Friday, March 31, live on FloTrack.
UCLA is set to host several much-anticipated outdoor performances this weekend at the Legends of Track & Field Invitational. Check out the top five events to watch at the two-day meet, starting Friday, March 31, and concluding Saturday, April 1, live on FloTrack.
Men's 200m
Who: Rai Benjamin
When: Saturday, 5:10 PM PT
Why: UCLA's All-American 400m hurdler is scheduled to run a shorter sprint this Saturday after winning the 400m hurdles and 400m at the Pac-12 vs. Big Ten Invitational. He set a new personal best of 46.17 in his 400m victory. Last year, Benjamin finished sixth overall with a personal best of 49.82 in the 400m hurdle final of the NCAA Outdoor Championships. This weekend's 200m run will be his first attempt at the distance since finishing third in the 200m at the MPSF Indoor Championships.
Men's Mile Invitational
Who: Nick Hartle
When: Friday, 7:30 PM PT
Why: The men's mile will feature the return of former Bruin Nick Hartle. Last year while competing for UCLA, Hartle notched a career best of 1:46.73 in the 800m at UCLA's dual meet against Texas A&M. He went on to compete in the first round of the NCAA Outdoor Championships and the semifinal round of the Olympic Trials.
Hartle only competed in three mile races last year and boasts a personal best of 4:05 in the event, but with his leg speed, he is capable of running close to the four-minute barrier.
Women's 1500m Invitational
Who: Raquel Lambdin
When: Friday, 7:40 PM PT
Why: Raquel Lambdin leads a women's 1500m invitational after opening up her season with a 4:22 1500m in San Diego. While competing in college at UC Davis, Lambdin finished fifth with a personal best of 4:15 in the 1500m at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Since graduating, Lambdin has notched an 800m personal best of 2:03.27.
Men's 10,000m
Who: Lane Werley
When: Friday, 8:35 PM PT
Why: Former UCLA All-American Lane Werley is entered in the 10,000m, which will mark his first race of the season. Last year, Werley ended his college career with a 12th-place finish in the 10K at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. In the same season, he notched a 10K personal best of 29:07 when he finished second at the Pac-12 Championships.
Men's 400m hurdles
Who: CJ Allen
When: Saturday, 4:30 PM PT
Why: The Washington State All-American will return to Los Angeles after opening up his outdoor season with a 50.43 400m hurdle victory at the Trojan Invitational. Last year, Allen set a personal best of 50.16 before winning the Pac-12 Championship and competing in the first round of the NCAA Outdoor Championships and Olympic Trials.
