NCAA Prelims Day 2 Recap: Cunliffe DNS, Kerley Collegiate Record
Hannah Cunliffe scratched the 100 meters at the NCAA West Prelims.
For the second straight year, Oregon's Hannah Cunliffe will miss at least one expected final at NCAA outdoors. Cunliffe, the NCAA indoor champion in the 60 meters and runner-up in the 200m, was a surprise scratch in the 100 meters at the NCAA West Preliminary round. In 2016, she injured her hamstring in the semifinals, and she did not run outdoors her freshman year at Oklahoma.
She had struggled with the flu earlier this season. Oregon coach Robert Johnson told FloTrack in April that Cunliffe had been hospitalized with the flu shortly before running on a collegiate record-breaking 4x100m relay at Mt. SAC.
Cunliffe also scratched the 200 meters later, meaning that for the second straight year, Cunliffe will not score at the NCAA meet. Despite her lack of outdoor NCAA points, Cunliffe is one of the most talented sprinters in collegiate history.
