Men's 5K
Who: Galen Rupp, Cam Levins
When: 9 PM PT
Why: Olympic medalist Galen Rupp is returning to the track for the second time this year with a 5K at Stumptown. Last Saturday, Rupp kicked off what could be his final season on the track. He jogged 28:18 in the 10K to practice racing before the USATF Outdoor Championships. The Nike Oregon Project standout has been transitioning to the marathon for the past two years, highlighted by an Olympic bronze medal in Rio. Rupp will be joined by training partner Cam Levins, who will compete in his first race since undergoing surgery on his foot last year.
Women's 5K
Who: Jordan Hasay, Sharon Lokedi, Sasha Gollish
When: 8:40 PM PT
Why: After running the fastest marathon debut by an American woman, Jordan Hasay is returning to her track roots. Stumptown will mark Hasay's first race since finishing third in 2:23 at the Boston Marathon in April. The performance took place just six months after her mother passed away, and Hasay dedicated the performance to her memory.
Men's 1500m
Who: Mikey Brannigan, Jordan McNamara, Craig Nowak, Sam Prakel, Josh Thompson, David Timlin, Daniel Winn, Henry Wynne, Eric Avila, MJ Erb, Blake Haney, Tim Gorman
When: 8:10 PM PT
Why: Paralympic gold medalist Mikey Brannigan will be chasing the USATF Outdoor Championship 1500m standard with the goal of competing at nationals. He needs to run 3:39.00 in order to qualify for the championship. Last summer, Brannigan ran a breakthrough 3:57.58 at Sir Walter Miler, which is just 1.08 seconds shy of the mile equivalent of the standard. He also recently ran a 1500m personal best of 3:44 at the Portland Track Festival.
Women's 1500m
Who: Katie Rainsberger, Lilli Burdon, Therese Haiss, Ashley Maton, Rebecca Mehra
When: 7:55 PM PT
Why: Many women in this field are attempting to run the USATF Outdoor Championship standard of 4:09.5, notably freshman All-American Katie Rainsberger. The Oregon Duck notched a 1500m personal best of 4:11.53 in May and has since earned a fourth-place finish in the 1500m at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Rainsberger, along with Lilli Burdon, Therese Haiss, and Rebecca Mehra, will be presumably aiming for that standard mark.
Men's 800m
Who: Andrew Wheating, Edward Kemboi
When: 7:10 PM PT
Why: Olympian Andrew Wheating will be competing in his first race since the Prefontaine Classic in late May, when he ran a season's best of 3:55 in the mile. He's also still maintaining the shenanigans on Instagram.
Women's 800m
Who: Rianna Goins, Annie Leblanc, Baylee Mires, Samantha Murphy, Natalija Piliusina, Claudia Saunders, Raquel Lambdin, Alisha Brown
When: 6:50 PM PT
Why: Similar to most of the events at Stumptown, many of the women's 800m competitors are aiming to hit the USATF Outdoor Championship standard of 2:02.00. One of the competitors to keep an eye on will be Rianna Goins of UC Davis. She just finished sixth in the NCAA 800m final, where she notched a personal best of 2:03.86. The performance was a massive two-second improvement on her previous best and suggests that she is hitting her peak at the perfect time.
