Houston's Eli Hall Withdraws From Worlds Due To Injury
Eli Hall of the University of Houston withdraws from the IAAF World Championships due to injury.
The University of Houston announced today that rising senior Elijah Hall will withdraw from the upcoming IAAF World Championships due to an unnamed lingering injury.
Hall was slated to represent Team USA in the 200m after placing third in the event at the USATF Championships behind Ameer Webb and Christian Coleman. Coleman, who recently signed with Nike after an outstanding junior campaign that saw him win four NCAA titles and set the collegiate record for 200m, also recently withdrew from the 200m at worlds to focus on the 100m, citing fatigue from the long college season.
Hall has had a shorter season than Coleman, as injury (presumably the same one affecting him now) kept him from competing at the NCAA West Prelims and the NCAA Championships.
"While this is certainly disappointing, I did not want to hurt Team USA if I was not able to compete at 100 percent. That being said, I am really excited for next year and the Houston sprints group we'll be able to put out on the track," Hall said in a Cougars press release. "I've got five months to improve physically and to get into the best shape of my life. When the season comes around, I'm looking forward to helping our program compete at its highest ability on the national level."
With Coleman and Hall out, the next athletes in will be Kyree King, a recent graduate of the University of Oregon; and Isiah Young of Nike, who has represented Team USA at the 2012 Olympic Games and 2013 World Championships in the 200m.
Hall transferred to Houston from Butler this year. We talked to him after his surprise top-three finish at USAs:
