After a grueling 400m on Wednesday, Shaunae Miller-Uibo returned to claim her place in the women's 200m final at the IAAF World Championships in London.
The 400m Olympic champion came back from a disappointing showing to win heat two of the 200m in a comfortable 22.49 over Team USA's Kimberly Duncan on Thursday night. In the 400m final, Miller-Uibo was in the lead with 50 meters remaining, but pulled up in the final moments of the race and finished fourth overall, missing the opportunity to earn gold at two consecutive global championships. On Thursday morning, she laid any doubts to rest before the 200m by tweeting, "I am injury free and will be contesting the 200m semis later tonight. #HisTiming."
In the first heat, 2015 world champion Dafne Schippers looked dominant with a victory in 22.49 -- just ahead of Team USA's Deajah Stevens. They both automatically qualified for the final.
Schippers and Stevens are returning from competing in the 100m, in which Schippers earned a bronze medal and Stevens finished eighth in the semifinal.
In the final heat of the 200m semifinal, Marie-Josee Ta Lou won in 22.50. The performance took place a few days after she earned a silver medal in the 100m. Behind her, Dina Asher-Smith finished second in 22.73.
The 200m final will take place on Friday at 3:50 PM CT.
