Richards won bronze in the 200m at the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London and finished his campaign strong with gold in the 4x400m relay. Running on the second leg, Richards made a bold move on the final turn to put his team right behind the U.S. and in the hunt for first. In doing so, he helped Trinidad & Tobago upset Team USA for his country's first gold medal in that event.
Earlier that season, the Alabama junior enjoyed several breakthroughs on the NCAA level, including a third-place finish in the 200m at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships and a 200m PR of 19.97 at the NCAA East Preliminary Meet.
Last year, Richards traveled with Trinidad & Tobago to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games as an alternate.
