The 20-year-old Ethiopian has reportedly joined the Nike Oregon Project in Portland, Oregon
Yomif Kejelcha has joined the Nike Oregon Project (NOP) in Portland, Oregon, according to Dyestat.
The 20-year-old Ethiopian is one of the top young talents in the world, having now twice finished fourth at the IAAF World Championships 5K in both 2015 and 2017. He was tantalizingly close to a medal in both races, especially this past summer as he was the last to lean through the line in a photo finish with countryman Muktar Edris, Brit Mo Farah, and American Paul Chelimo.
Kejelcha was one of the few men in the world this year to challenge Farah, a former NOP athlete who retired from the track this year. He placed second to the four-time Olympic champion and six-time world champion at the Prefontaine 5K, a race he won as a 17-year-old in 2015 over NOP's prize marathoner Galen Rupp; and third in the IAAF Diamond League final behind Farah and Edris.
He won the 2016 IAAF World Indoor 3K and the 2014 IAAF World Junior 5K titles.
