Kahmari Montgomery helped the University of Houston win their first-ever Penn Relays College Men's 4x400 Championship of America title on Saturday with an insane 43.38 anchor, the fastest split in meet history.
Montgomery, who transferred to Houston from the University of Missouri this year, teamed with Amere Lattin (46.0), Mario Burke (45.7), and Cameron Burrell (46.74) to take the wheel back to Texas with an overall time of 3:01.82—a new school record and the second-fastest time in the NCAA this season behind Florida. Montgomery was named Men's College Athlete of the Meet for his heroics.

The Cougars defeated a strong Auburn squad which included two sub-44 splits from the likes of Akeem Bloomfield (43.4) and Nathon Allen (43.77)
The split is not only the fastest recorded mark in Penn Relays history, it's one of the fastest split times recorded—ever. Eleventh-best in world history, to be exact.

Prior to his Houston transfer, Montgomery had never made the final of an NCAA championship meet. This winter, he placed fourth at NCAA indoors. Last weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays, he broke 45 seconds for the first time in his career with a 44.91 fourth-place run behind USC's Michael Norman and Rai Benjamin and professional Paul Dedewo.
Clearly, big things are on the horizon for Montgomery and the Cougars, who also took home the wheel in the College Men's 4x100 Championship of America.
