Future New Mexico Lobo Adva Cohen had a phenomenal run at the European Championships this weekend. Coming into the competition, Cohen's personal-best steeple mark was 9:48. In the prelims, she lowered that mark to 9:36, and in the final, she finished fifth overall to become the sixth collegian to break the 9:30 barrier running 9:29.74.
New Mexico head coach Joe Franklin said this following Adva's performance:
"Adva ran a fantastic race. She was patient early and was able to close extremely well. We are excited for the opportunity to work with Adva and help her reach all of her goals."
Cohen joins the New Mexico cross country team as a sophomore after spending her first year in junior college at Iowa Central where she won six individual NJCAA titles during the 2017-18 season.
The addition of Cohen certainly solidifies the Lobos as the unanimous NCAA favorites with the return of three top-15 finishers in Ednah Kurgat (1st), Weini Kelati (7th) and Charlotte Prouse (12th).
