Analysis:
The Indiana men look to be a rejuvenated team with top-20 potential in 2018 after sending just one runner, then-sophomore Ben Veatch, to the NCAA Championships last fall. The men return all seven athletes from their sixth-place finish in the Great Lakes Region and add top prep recruit Dustin Horter to the line-up.
Veatch placed 87th in his debut at the NCAA XC Championships; both he and redshirt sophomore Kyle Mau qualified individually for NCAAs for the first time during track season. Veatch ran a 5K PB of 13:50.49 and placed 16th in that event at NCAA Outdoors, while Mau—the Big Ten indoor mile champion—ran 7:50 for 3K, placed 14th at NCAA Indoors and anchored Indiana’s DMR to seventh place at the indoor championship.
Horter is the No. 2 ranked recruit in the Class of 2018 and enters college with the potential to contribute right away after placing sixth at Nike Cross Nationals, running 8:48 for 3200m and winning the Brooks PR and New Balance Nationals Indoor mile titles in his senior year.
